Definiton: to make a mistake; to mishandle things  犯錯; 把事情搞砸

Example 1: I admit it.  I dropped the ball.  我承認, 我搞砸了。

Example 2: Don't drop the ball on this. We are relying on you.  別把這件事搞砸, 我們都靠你了。

Drop the ball 的字面意思就是把球丟下

球丟了不但無法得分, 搞不好還砸了自己的腳, 當然不是一件好事。
