kudos

Definition: praise and honor received for an achievement; a term that one uses to acknowledge A Job Well Done  對一項成就或好表現的喝采、讚賞

Example 1:  I heard you just won the first place.  Kudos to you!  我聽說你拿到第一名! 好讚啊!

Example 2:  Kudos for that performance.  It was amazing.   哪場表演值得喝采, 太驚人了!

大家都知道 Good job!  Awesome!  Well-done!  這類的說法, 但是一樣的說詞用來用去挺無趣, Kudos 或 Kudos to you 可以用來取代, 是很流行的用法喔!

 Kudos 看起來很像是加了 s 的複數形, 其實沒有 kudo 這個字喔, S 原本就在裡面。  Kudos 這個字怎麼來的呢?  它原是希臘字, 意為「光輝 , 榮耀」, 十八世紀末融入英文成為一個英文字。

 這一課是不是超簡單啊?  要忘記很難吧!
