food coma

Definiton: a state of sleep or extreme lethargy induced by the consumption of a large amount of food. 大吃一頓後所產生的昏睡感

Example 1: Melissa is experiencing a food coma after pigging out at a buffet restaurant. Melissa 在包肥餐廳狂吃一頓後, 正有著嚴重的昏睡感。

Example 2: I can't join the game because I am slipping into a food coma. 我不能加入你們的遊戲, 因為我正陷入大吃後的昏睡。

最常聽到美國人說他們有 food coma 就是感恩節或是聖誕節那兩天, 因為都是吃大餐的日子。有人甚至懷疑是火雞肉裏頭有甚麼物質導致。

台灣人現在超愛吃包肥餐, 感受 food coma 的頻率應該越來越高了。

其實可以很簡單用科學來解釋。胃腸消化時, 大量血液會流到相關器官, 頭部血液變少, 就會感到些許昏眩想睡。

food 是食物, coma 是昏迷, 兩個字放在一起就行了, 是不是超簡單?  When was the last time you had a food coma?
