pep talk

Definiton: a talk intended to make someone feel more courageous or enthusiastic; a short speech that is given to encourage someone to work harder, to feel more confident and enthusiastic, etc. 一小段話, 用來替人加油打氣, 增加信心。

 

Example 1: The manager gives a pep talk to his team every morning.  經理每天早上都給他的團隊精神喊話。

Example 2: We just got a pep talk from the teacher before tomorrow's big exam.  大考前老師給我們精神喊話。

最會給 pep talk 絕對是運動教練了, 每次上場前都要好好激勵隊員一番。

一個好的領導者和管理者必須適度的用 pep talk 激勵下屬, 一味地用高壓手段很難讓人對工作或學習有動力, 容易造成反效果。

這樣的場景應該不陌生吧! 我們都做過, 面試前或上台前在鏡子前給自己打氣, 告訴自己一定辦的到。
