get/start off on the wrong foot

Definition:  make a bad start at something 一開始就搞砸

Example 1: Sonya got off on the wrong foot with her new roommate.  Sonya 一開始就沒跟新室友打好關係。

Example 2: I got off on the wrong foot when I was a half our late to the interview.  我遲到了半小時, 面試沒有好的開頭。

start/get off on the wrong foot 從字面上看, 意思很清楚: 起步的時候用錯了腳。一旦出錯腳, 接下來的行走可能會非常不順。不懂的話, 問問那些當過兵的就知道了。行軍的時候腳步一定要對啊, 第一步若沒走對, 之後步伐亂成一團。

這樣的比喻用在一般事物上就很好理解。如果一件事情開頭搞砸, 之後可能越來越困難。
