put down       phrasal verb

Definition:  to make someone feel foolish or unimportant by criticizing them　用言語貶低別人

Examples:

1) Why did you have to put me down in front of everybody like that?

2) Erika always puts down her co-workers because she thinks she's smarter and better than everyone else.
