humor me

 

Definition:  request for tolerance or indulgence  請求對方遷就一下

 

Example 1: Just humor me for a minute and listen to my crazy proposal.  請遷就一下子聽聽我的瘋狂計畫。

Example 2: I know you hate camping, but humor me and let's try it once. 我知道你討厭露營, 但請遷就一下讓我們試一次看看。

Humor me 是很口語的用法, 美劇裡應該常聽到。

 

大家應該都學過 humor 這個字, 幽默好笑的意思 (名詞)。A sense of humor 就是幽默感。當 humor 用作動詞時, 有遷就和迎合的意思, 讓對方開心。

 

所以當有人跟你說 humor me 的時候, 就是請你遷就, 讓他開心一下 (例如讓他把想講的話講出來, 或是配合他做某件事情)。口語中另外幾種說法 Bear with me 和 Indulge me 有類似意思。
