One has made one's bed

One has made one's bed (and must lie in it)

 

Definition: One must accept the consequences of one's actions 承擔自己的行為後果

 

Example 1: You should not have cheated on your wife.  You've made your bed, now lie in it.  你不應欺騙老婆搞外遇。既然做了, 就該面對。

Example 2: Tammy was fired from her job after missing too many days.  She's made her bed.  泰咪曠職多日被開除, 她自找的。

Make the bed 是整理床鋪, 鋪床的意思。 You've made your bed, now lie in it 字面上的意思為: 你把自己的床鋪好了, 就睡上去。

 

美劇裡面不時聽到這說法, 但通常會把後面一半省略掉, 只說 He's made his bed 或是 You've made your bed。

 

把鋪床拿來比喻為做了不好的事情或是做出不好的決定, 是不是很奇妙呢?
